When I was a kid, my family lived in a house which backed onto a graveyard. After seeing the Salem's Lot TV movie, I couldn't get the image of a monster tapping on the window out of my head! I extended the arm to make it unnatural and used the shadow of the hand to try and generate a sense of slow, creeping fear in the image.
